  • Orgreave Lakes: Sanderling - 1 - On west shore ; Dunlin - 1 ; Kittiwake - 1 - Adult ; BITTERN - 2 - Presumed female seen dropping on to Treeton Dyke at 08:15. Second bird (possibly male) seen following then headed east high.
  • R Derwent, Leadmill: Mandarin - 8+ - 1 pair, 3 males, 2 females. One female with at least one young ; Spotted Flycatcher - 2 - Pair at nest between Leadmill Bridge and Shatton ; Dipper - 3 - Two adults. One with juvenile
  • R Don, Effingham St: Herring Gull - c25 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - c20 ; Canada Goose - 2 - female still incubating after 44 days, how long wil she continue? male still on guard. ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - 3cy on roof briefly ; Greylag Goose - 11 - over E
  • Rawmarsh Cemetery: Great Tit - breeding confirmed - family party ; Stock Dove - 1 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 1 - calling ; Chaffinch - 2 - singing
  • Rawmarsh; fields to W: Lapwing - 1pr - mobbing SH; probably with young ; Kestrel - 1 - female; harassing Hobby ; Hobby - 1 - over, carrying avian prey @ 0920hrs; harassed by Kestrel & left NW ; Red-legged Partridge - 2 - calling from same field ; Swift - c10 - over ; Skylark - 4+ - 3+ singing + 1 carrying food
  • Rawmarsh; Stubbin Incline: Chiffchaff - 5 - 1 singing + 1 (SK4395); 2 singing + 1 (SK4396) ; Blackcap - 5 - 1 (SK4395) + 4 (SK4396), all singing ; Woodpigeon - 1 - carrying nest material ; Bullfinch - 1 - calling ; Song Thrush - 3 - 1 singing ; Chaffinch - 1 - singing ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - left SW over farmland & mobbed by Lapwings
  • Redmires Bottom Res: Reed Bunting - 1
  • Redmires conduit: Hobby - 1 - Hunting along the far end of conduit before leaving towards stanage ; Tawny Owl - 1 - Chased between trees on either side of conduit by a corvid at 20:35 ; Golden Plover - 1 - Calling and doing slow flapping flight over short heather, then suddenly dropped and landed. ; Cuckoo - 1
  • Redmires Middle Res: Whitethroat - 1 - In woods next to middle reservoir ; Blackcap - 1 - With nesting material in woods
  • Redmires Top Res: Reed Bunting - 1 ; Cuckoo - 1 - flying towards Stanage Pole ; Greylag Goose - 9 - Adult and 7 goslings ; Canada Goose - 9 - 2 adults and 7 goslings
  • Ringinglow: Swallow - 3+ ; Swift - 3 ; House Martin - 4+ ; Jay - 2 ; Pied Wagtail - 1
  • Silver Wood: Cuckoo - 1 - singing briefly to east of woods at 08.40. Same as heard at TCP earlier. A really scarce bird locally nowadays.
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Mute Swan - 2+ - resident pair and 6 cygnets ; Green Woodpecker - 1
  • Thrybergh CP: Cuckoo - 1 - first of year calling from graveyard area moved onto old railway ; Little Ringed Plover - 1 - on front ; Shelduck - 1 ; Swift - c 150
  • Treeton: Reed Warbler - 1 - singing in scrub at end of Washfield Lane.
  • Wyming Brook: Woodcock - 1 - Moorland fringe

  • Chatsworth Park: Mute Swan - 6 - Immature birds by cricket ground ; Swift - 30+ - Feeding over sheep pasture next to river
  • Firsby Res: Mistle Thrush - 4 ; Blackbird - 6 ; Mallard - 3 - 1 female with 2 ducklings ; Swift - 4 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Male making 3 unsuccessful attempts to capture prey ; Reed Warbler - 3 - Singing ; Sedge Warbler - 2 ; Willow Warbler - 5 ; Chiffchaff - 4
  • Greystones garden: Goldfinch - 4 - 1 Juvenile in observer's garden - 1st of year ; House Sparrow - 7 - 1 Juvenile - 1st of year
  • Harper Lees: Mandarin - 1+ - 1f with 6 small young ; Mallard - 1+ - 1f with 9 small ducklings
  • Hathersage: Blackbird - 1 - m carrying food
  • Leadmill Bridge: Mandarin - 1+ - 1f with 5 small young
  • Middleton Moor: Ringed Plover - 4 ; Sanderling - 1 ; Mallard - 1+ - f with brood of 10
  • Millhouses Park: Grey Wagtail - 6 - Including an adult with three recently fledged juvs. ; Dipper - 1 - One briefly along the river. My first in the park this year.
  • Morehall Res: Common Sandpiper - 2 - Pair

  • Ravenfield Park: Chaffinch - 6 ; 319 - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 2 ; Mallard - 4 - Males ; Oystercatcher - 2 - Flushed by anglers flew towards Firsby. ; Rook - 30c ; Carrion Crow - 5 ; Red-legged Partridge - 1 ; House Martin - 60c - Round St James's Church. ; Treecreeper - 2
  • Redmires Middle Res: Ringed Plover - 4 - 2 tundrae types
  • Redmires Top Res: Tern sp (Common/Arctic) - 2 - over SW towards Standege Pole, too distant to id
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Little Grebe - 2+ - pair feeding downy young
  • Staveley SF: Little Egret - 1 - on pool in field to the rear od the SF ; Little Ringed Plover - 1 - on pool in field to the rear of the SF
