  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Pied Flycatcher - 3 ; Nightjar - 1 - Male churring, wing clapping and calling between 22:01 and 22:15 ; Woodcock - 8+ - 5+ roding, 3 on ground
  • Whiteley Woods: Ring-necked Parakeet - 04-May - 4 or 5 around nest hole
  • Woodhouse Washlands: Goosander - 16 - female and 15 young
  • Wyming Brook: Willow Warbler - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Blackcap - 1 - Male ; Wood Warbler - 2 ; 319 - 1

  • Blacka Moor: Grasshopper Warbler - 2 - A pair above Strawberry Lee Pastures. Reeling and chasing each other amongst reeds for at least 30mins ; Wood Warbler - 4 ; Willow Warbler - 10+ ; Blackcap - 5 ; Garden Warbler - 3 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Whitethroat - 1 ; Cuckoo - 1 ; Tree Pipit - 2 ; Jay - 1 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 2 - pair ; Song Thrush - 4 - Including one near Shorts Lane incorporating a fragment of Wood Warbler reel into its song. ; Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - reeling and showing
  • Brinsworth: 319 - 2 - Over Barrett estate calling, descended towards junction 33.
  • Burbage Edge: Whinchat - 1 - 1 male
  • Burbage Valley: Cuckoo - 1 - Singing
  • Dennis Knoll: Cuckoo - 1 - Singing
  • Dore: House Sparrow - 1+ - adult feeding 2 recently fledged young in observer's garden

  • Graves Park: Tufted Duck - 7 - 5m, 2f ; Mandarin - 3 - 2m,1f ; Chiffchaff - 1
  • Greenwood Farm, Hathersage: Pied Flycatcher - 1
  • Greno Wood: Wood Warbler - 1 - On territory
  • Hathersage: Coot - 1 - on pool next to Kentney Barn by R Derwent. My only Coot in SK28 this spring despite almost 100 hours birding ; Pied Flycatcher - 2 - 2 singing along R Derwent between Shatton and Leadmill Bridge
  • Holmesfield: Little Owl - 1 - in ash tree
  • Leash Fen: Yellowhammer - 2 - pair taking food to nest
  • Malin Bridge: Oystercatcher - 1 - nocmig, series of calls at 00:31 ; Tufted Duck - 1 - nocmig flight calls at 03:04
  • Offerton Moor: Red-legged Partridge - 2
  • Orgreave Lakes: Avocet - 1 - Among Mute Swans on east shore ; Pochard - 3 - 2 males 1 fem ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Wheatear - 1 - Female on rocks at north shore
  • Padley Gorge: Blue Tit - 3+ ; Treecreeper - 2 ; Wren - 4+ - several heard, 1 seen ; Chaffinch - 2 - 1m,1f ; Pied Flycatcher - 4 - 2m,2f around nest boxes ; Cuckoo - 1 - flying towards Surprise View ; Jackdaw - 2 ; Willow Warbler - 4+ - several heard ; Treecreeper - 2 - pair visiting nest site with food

  • Redmires Top Res: Little Owl - 1 - Calling from adjoining forestry ; Mallard - 8+ - Including 2 females with broods of 2 and 3 small chicks respectively
