  • Brightholmlee: Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Blackbird - 04-Jun ; Robin - 5+ ; Blue Tit - 4 ; Great Tit - 2 ; Wren - 1 ; Chaffinch - 1 ; 319 - 2 - in trees on Carhouse Meadows ; Magpie - 4 ; Carrion Crow - 2 ; Barn Owl - 1 - hunting over fields near Hamlet
  • Canklow Woods: Common Buzzard - 6 - in the air together at 1030
  • Carterknowle Park: Jay - 2 ; Nuthatch - 2 ; Redwing - 14 ; Fieldfare - 1 ; Goldfinch - c4 ; Mistle Thrush - 2
  • Chapeltown Park: 319 - 2 - Pair calling ; Goldfinch - c15 ; Long-tailed Tit - 5+
  • Chatsworth Park: Redwing - 60+ ; Coot - 8 - Scarce here this winter ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Drumming
  • Crosspool: Tawny Owl - 1 - Showing well in good light ; Tawny Owl - 1
  • Hathersage: Kestrel - 1 ; Redwing - 1
  • Hillsborough Park: Goosander - 1 - redhead on park pond (my only sighting here in several visits Jan-Mar) ; Feral Pigeon - 62 - my highest count here Jan-Mar
  • Kimberworth Park: 319 - 2 - Together drifting W over Shepherd's Plantation and Oaks Lane @ 11:15.
  • Langsett Res: Mallard - 32 ; Black-headed Gull - 1500 - c. roosted
  • Longshaw: Mandarin - 21
  • Loxley Common: Skylark - 1 - no further sightings in Loxley/Stannington area for over a month
  • Manor Fields Park: Kingfisher - 1 - again fishing top pond 16:30. ; Moorhen - 3 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Redwing - 4 ; Lesser Redpoll - 2 - Briefly in central area then flew off. ; Blackbird - 8+ - across site 15:35-17:10.
  • Middlewood: Goosander - 2 - pair on R Don opposite Middlewood Tavern ; Redwing - c30 - the only decent flock I had in the Loxley/Stannington area Jan-Mar
  • Morehall Res: Mallard - 35+ ; Black-headed Gull - 60+ ; 321 - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Woodpigeon - 8 ; Pheasant - 3
  • Moss Road, Totley: Green Woodpecker - 1 - calling ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Robin - 1 - singing ; Dunnock - 1 - singing
  • Orgreave Lakes: Golden Plover - 5 ; Pink-footed Goose - 47 - In two skeins (26 and 21) NW 08:35 & 09:00.
  • Parkgate; Broad Street: Mute Swan - 3 - W @ 0755hrs
  • Peat Pits: Golden Plover - 32 - still in fields
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Tufted Duck - 14 ; Cormorant - 1 ; Greylag Goose - 8 - north ; Tawny Owl - 1 - calling Hollings Lane sidings at 07.20 ; Jack Snipe - 1 ; Woodcock - 1 ; Linnet - 3 ; Lesser Redpoll - 2 ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Great Tit - 3 - singing ; Skylark - 1 - singing ; Meadow Pipit - 1 ; Common Buzzard - 3 ; Stock Dove - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 - fly-over (later on Woodlaithes duckpond) ; Jay - 3 ; Jackdaw - 2 - NE ; Siskin - 1
  • Wingfield: Rook - c20 - Gathered in trees adj to nests on Wingfield Road behind Forty Martyrs with some Jackdaws.

Thursday 28th January 2021

  • Botanical Gardens: Long-tailed Tit - 2 ; Chaffinch - 1f ; Redwing - c30 - Feeding on an open grassy area
  • Brownhills Lane: Fieldfare - c10 - with Starlings ; Starling - c45 - with Fieldfares ; Greylag Goose - 80 - 78 + 2 in neighbouring fields, but no White-front ; Pied Wagtail - 1
  • Canklow Woods: Lesser Redpoll - 80+ - flock
  • Cowell Flat: Snipe - 6+ - Several birds actively calling and drumming in the area.
  • Damflask Res: Mallard - 110 ; Mandarin - 66 ; Goosander - 3 ; Cormorant - 4 ; Robin - 12 - On walk around res.
  • Frecheville: Goosander - 4 - Frecheville pond
  • General Cemetery, Sharrow: Redwing - c13 - Feeding on ground
  • Hathersage: Brambling - 3 - At feeding stations in obs' garden
  • Limb Valley: Raven - 1 ; Green Woodpecker - 1 ; 319 - 1
  • Longshaw: Dipper - 1 - feeding on small stream, presumably a reflection of high river levels elsewhere.
  • Meersbrook Park: Nuthatch - 1 - heard
  • Millhouses: Blackcap - 1 - Male. Taking sunflower hearts from a feeder.
  • Nether Edge: Nuthatch - 1 - Thornsett Rd
