  • Redmires Res: Moorhen - 2 - on Top Res ; Kestrel - 3 ; Pink-footed Goose - 28 - flew E at 08:45 hrs ; Woodpigeon - 22,200 - flew S in 90 mins ; Fieldfare - 100 - c. flew SW ; Redwing - 20 - c. Flew SW ; Brambling - 2 - flew SW ; Chaffinch - 20 - c. Flew W ; Lesser Redpoll - 15 - flew W ; Reed Bunting - 2 - singles SW ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Goldcrest - 10 - c. around Top Res ; Lapwing - 40 - c.
  • Rivelin Valley: Kingfisher - 1 - down river by Walkley Bank Tilt (first dam) ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - male over Walkley Bank woods
  • Rockingham Wood: 319 - 4 - together,2 more possibly @ Scholes Coppice same time, calls heard regularly, 10:15 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - in swooping flight
  • Rod Moor: Brambling - 1 - calling ; Skylark - 4 - over ; Cormorant - 1 ; Woodpigeon - ++ - constant flocks SE 8:15-10:30, with flightlines from Loxley Common-Stannington-Lodge Moor, and also Moscar-Hallam Moors-Redmires. Tens of thousands but too hard to count accurately. ; Pink-footed Goose - 264 - 6 skeins 08:15-10:20, 4 heading SE (c174), 2 ( c90) heading W ; TWITE - 2+ - vismig calling only, possibly seen flying W in distance. Suspected at the time, confirmed by sound recording as I had set recorder going for the whole 2hr watch. ; 324 - 1 - 'tic' calls half heard at the time, but clearer on recording. 5x calls and sonograms suggest Little Bunting as suggested by other experienced vismiggers.
  • Stoney Ridge Road: 324 - 1 - Weasel - ran across the road in front of us
  • Treeton meadows: Canada Goose - 64 ; Greylag Goose - 1 ; Mute Swan - 2 ; Wigeon - 6
  • Ulley Brook Bog: Stonechat - 1
  • Wentworth Park: Common Buzzard - 7 - in the air at once over E half of Park @ 1250hrs

Thursday 3rd November 2022

  • Agden Side: Woodpigeon - 2800 - SW between 10am ad 12.00
  • Bolehill Flash: Water Rail - 2 ; 319 - 1 ; Long-tailed Tit - 12 ; Great Tit - 10 ; Blue Tit - 6 ; Goldcrest - 2 - In mixed tit flock.
  • Firsby Res: Mute Swan - 3 - Main Res early morning. ; Moorhen - 1 - Call only at dusk. ; Woodcock - 1 - Flushed from sluice at dawn first record of Autumn. ; Tawny Owl - 1 - Calling in willows. ; 319 - 1 - Down on farmland early morning. ; Redwing - 5+ - Over site. ; Fieldfare - 2+
  • Green Moor: Lesser Redpoll - 2 ; Raven - 1 ; Fieldfare - 6 ; Redwing - 20+
  • Kiveton Community Woodland: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - female, first visit in a long while.
  • Low Moor, Upper Midhope: Fieldfare - C200 - mainly feeding on the moor with smaller numbers feeding the berry bushers ; Redwing - c30
  • Loxley Common: Lesser Redpoll - c50 - Flock circled, calling, then flew south over birch woodland.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Water Rail - 2
  • R Don, Effingham St: Goosander - 8 - Male and 7 redheads ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1
  • Redmires: Raven - 1 - calling from Plantation ; Kestrel - 3+ - at least 2 juvs in plantation, possibly up to 5 birds, with a further bird observed over Cattis Side (from Stanage Pole) ; Stonechat - 12+ - 12+ Stonechats on Long Causeway path from Redmires to Stanage Pole in one large party. 3 adult females, 4+ adult males and rest juv males. ; Woodpigeon - 75+ - across 2 migrating parties heading SW ; Fieldfare - 60 - part of 60 flew SW into Hope Valley, calling ; Meadow Pipit - 3 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 5 - imm, possibly heading to Middleton Moor
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Wigeon - 5
  • Upper Common, Scholes: Stonechat - 1 - male, flitting through trees above gorse lined ditch
  • Wincobank Hill: Ring-necked Parakeet - 21+
  • Wortley vis-mig: Jackdaw - 591 - Majority 07:00-07:20 WSW from overnight roost. ; Magpie - 8 - 6+1+1 all low but in WSW direction ; Meadow Pipit - 14 - SW ; Woodpigeon - 1692 - S/SW ; Fieldfare - 49+ - Generally moving south but many stopping to feed in area. ; Redwing - 131 - Generally south ; Starling - 61 - West ; Finch sp - 4 - Possibly Crossbill ; Yellowhammer - 3 - incl 2 south ; Brambling - 1+ - Heard ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Reed Bunting - 1 ; Cormorant - 14 - 1 west, 2 east, 11 NW after flying over Howbrook Dam a while. ; Skylark - 1 ; Lesser Redpoll - 6 - South

  • Barlow Common: Little Owl - 1 ; Stock Dove - 1 ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - female
  • Catcliffe Flash: Wigeon - 151 ; Shoveler - 12 ; Mallard - 16 ; Gadwall - 69 ; 320 - 4 ; Little Grebe - 17
  • Holdworth: Yellowhammer - 16 - single group feeding in sheep fields.
  • Lodge Moor: Woodpigeon - c10000 plus - In large groups flying Norh to South
  • Low Ash Farm, Worrall: Pink-footed Goose - 29 - heading N/W. ; Bullfinch - 3 - 2m , 1f feeding on rowan berries. ; Starling - c600 - feeding in horse fields. ; Goldfinch - 11 - feeding on rowan berries.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Lapwing - 40+ ; Stonechat - 8
  • R Don, Effingham St: Feral Pigeon - 218
