  • Barlow Common: Redwing - 7+ ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Collared Dove - 10 - max, including at least 8 in one tree.
  • Brinsworth: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Up from Barrett Estate then circling moving Southwards.
  • Chapeltown: Pink-footed Goose - c100 - West 10.38
  • Crosspool: Tawny Owl - 1
  • Kimberworth Park: Goose sp - 70+ - W @ 10:30 ; Starling - 60+ - on power lines ; Starling - 60+ - on power lines, Hampstead Green ; Goldfinch - c10 - feeding on birch, Hampstead Green ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - in Barkers Park
  • Norton Lees garden: Redwing - 22+ - sitting in trees at back of gardens & flying in occasionally to feed on holly berries in observer’s garden
  • Orgreave Lakes: Wigeon - 19 ; 320 - 9 ; Goosander - 12 - flew in to roost a dusk ; CASPIAN GULL - 1 - 1st winter possibly the same bird as Effingham st. ; Lapwing - 34 ; 324 - c2000 - lots of Gulls coming in to wash off but no roost. ; Stonechat - 1 ; Skylark - 9 - On the plains.
  • R Don, Effingham St: Cormorant - 1 - drying its wings on the weir. ; Mallard - 74 ; Canada Goose - 6 ; Goosander - 4 - all RH ; Chiffchaff - 1 - 1 still in tit flock with tailless LTT. ; Kingfisher - 1 - female ; CASPIAN GULL - 1 - 1st year probably the Dutch ringed bird.
  • Redmires Top Res: Crossbill - 2+ - calling ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Goldcrest - 2
  • Rivelin Valley: Redwing - 1 - feeding with Starlings ; Fieldfare - 8 ; Starling - 12 ; Kestrel - 1
  • Sheffield Parkway: Ring-necked Parakeet - c20 - flew south over town end of parkway early morning,roost dispersal?
  • Walkley garden: Redwing - 5 - Feeding on holly berries

Tuesday 6th December 2022

  • Alport Valley: Crossbill - 4+ - In plantation, seen in flight calling
  • Catcliffe Flash: Mute Swan - 2 ; Shoveler - 9 ; Tufted Duck - 18 ; Gadwall - 32 ; Mallard - 5 ; Pochard - 4 ; Coot - 41
  • Crookes: 319 - 4 - circling and calling low over Tinker Lane
  • Curbar Gap: Lapwing - 150+
  • Dog Kennel Pond: Cormorant - 3 ; Mute Swan - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 11 ; Coot - 7
  • Harthill Res: Cormorant - 8 - On bottom res. ; 320 - 23 ; Mallard - 86 ; Gadwall - 2 ; Wigeon - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 78 ; Mute Swan - 2 - 2 adults + 2 1st years
  • Meersbrook Park: Redwing - 15+ - Feeding on holly berries.
  • Middle Common: Kestrel - 1 - hunting ; Skylark - 15+ ; Meadow Pipit - 12+
  • Pebley Pond: Redwing - 37 - Moving east
  • Redmires Top Res: Long-tailed Tit - 14 - in plantation with small number of goldcrest
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Redwing - c300 - flocks of thrushes all around pit top, feeding in rowans ; Fieldfare - 50 ; Blackbird - 50 ; Snipe - 1 ; Cormorant - 2 - north at 08.10 ; Short-eared Owl - 1 - brief sighting at 08:50 ; Kestrel - 1 ; Tufted Duck - 4 ; Gadwall - 3
  • Thurcroft: Fieldfare - 1 - Sat at the top of garden crab apple tree for approximately 5 minutes

Monday 5th December 2022

  • Back Tor, Derwentdale: Raven - 2 ; Meadow Pipit - c20 - single group disturbed from heather. ; Stonechat - 2 - m + f sat on bracken tops. ; Kestrel - 1 - male hunting. ; Red Grouse - 9 ; Wren - 1 - alarm calling from heather.
  • Barlow Common: Little Owl - 1 ; Redwing - up to 9 ; Long-tailed Tit - 6+ ; Kestrel - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 1
  • Canklow: House Sparrow - 11 - to garden feeders
  • Handsworth garden: Goldfinch - 30+ - On sunflower heart feeders
  • Kimberworth Park: Goose sp - c30 - S, one skein, splitting and reforming, 11:42
  • Longstone Edge: Woodpigeon - 100+ - In beech woodland
  • Middleton Moor: Lapwing - 80 ; Golden Plover - 2 ; 320 - 44 ; Wigeon - 2 ; Common Gull - 1
  • Norton Lees: Sparrowhawk - 1 - flew over
  • Thrybergh CP: Moorhen - 10 ; Coot - 28 ; Water Rail - 2 ; Little Grebe - 2 ; Great Crested Grebe - 5 ; Tufted Duck - 54
