  • Hope: Waxwing - 27 - via DOS; still in Hope at junction between Castleton Road and Marsh Ave
  • Kimberworth Park: Starling - c30 - Ashworth Drive/Remount Way ; Goldfinch - 10+ - Remount Way
  • Leash Fen: Pink-footed Goose - 18 - 18 south ; Fieldfare - 40 - c40 west in small groups ; Siskin - 8 ; Meadow Pipit - 6 ; Kestrel - 1 ; 319 - 1 ; Raven - 2
  • Midhope: Pink-footed Goose - 1 - with Greylags and a few Canada Geese, Midhope Hall Lane
  • Orgreave Lakes: GREAT NORTHERN DIVER - 1 - Still present ; Wigeon - 11 ; Pochard - 9 ; Long-tailed Tit - 6 ; Kestrel - 1
  • Redmires: Barn Owl - 1 - Hunting over marsh area to south of middle reservoir ; Waxwing - c237 - 10 flocks all came in on same flight line from the east over N side of middle res and heading over top res and presumed roosting in plantations 15:30-15:55 ; Crossbill - 2 - over top res calling
  • Roughwood Rec: Black-headed Gull - 60+ ; Rook - 20+ ; Jackdaw - 10+ ; Woodpigeon - 9
  • Sheffield University: Waxwing - c100 - In tall trees by the junction of Upper Hanover St & Glossop Rd ; Waxwing - c120
  • Staveley: Waxwing - 4+ - per DOS; on the Trans Pennine Trail at Staveley, near to the sewage works
  • Wharncliffe Wood: Crossbill - 2+ - In the woods adjacent to the south edge of the chase

Tuesday 12th December 2023

  • Broomhill: Waxwing - c10 - Bustling around between trees around the intersection of Elmore Rd and Moor Oaks Rd at 12:55
  • Canklow Woods: Green Woodpecker - 1 - scarce here
  • Carr Vale NR: 325 - 1 - Roosted on W side of reserve pond (N end of reserve - well inside SBSG area) ; Chiffchaff - 2 - Between embankment and reserve pond
  • Gillfield Wood: Kestrel - 1 - Perched on telephone wire near Moorwood Lane ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Called briefly in west end of wood.
  • Green Moor: Raven - 1
  • Greenhill: Waxwing - 1 - Single bird calling, headed NW over Greenhill Main Road
  • Handsworth garden: Goldfinch - 20+
  • Hudson*s Rough: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 ; Robin - 1+ - singing ; Blackbird - 2+ ; Goldcrest - 1+ ; Blue Tit - 1+ ; Goldfinch - 1+ ; Woodpigeon - 1+ ; Carrion Crow - 1
  • Intake: Waxwing - 6 - in trees at Intake Cemetery at 11.15.
  • Leash Fen: Kestrel - 1 - Floating down onto roadside bush, Slatepit Lane at 15:00 ; Stonechat - 1 - Perched at side of road
  • Loxley Common: Redwing - 1+ - In Holly trees at the bottom of the woods
  • Malin Bridge: Cormorant - 1 - Perched in trees behind Towsure
  • Orgreave Lakes: GREAT NORTHERN DIVER - 1 - Still present - record shot ; Goldeneye - 1 - Redhead ; CASPIAN GULL - 1 - Second-winter present mid-afternoon ; Great Black-backed Gull - 11 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 3 ; Herring Gull - 45 ; Black-headed Gull - 120 ; Tufted Duck - 30 ; Pochard - 15 ; Little Grebe - 6 ; Cormorant - 2 ; Coot - 40 ; Lesser Redpoll - 60 - Mobile flock between river amd railway bridge ; Siskin - 12 ; Goldfinch - 8
  • RVCP: Goosander - 14 - poor winter for this species so far

  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Pink-footed Goose - 100+ - flew over late afternoon

  • Attercliffe: Ring-necked Parakeet - c8 - in trees Washford Bridge ; CASPIAN GULL - 2 - both second winters again present at Warren Street. ; Great Black-backed Gull - 33 ; Herring Gull - c120
  • Big Moor: Fieldfare - c200 - Roosted
  • Brightside: Peregrine - 1
  • Brownhills Lane: Greylag Goose - 46 - Feeding in fields ; Canada Goose - 32 ; Starling - 120 - Feeding in fields
  • Canklow Woods: Raven - 1 - west at 13:30 ; Lesser Redpoll - 13
  • Crosspool: Waxwing - 15 - c15 in trees on Manchester Road at 0830 hrs
  • Dore Moor: 319 - 2 - standing in field
  • Hanover Way: Waxwing - 20+ - 12:30-13:00 Spread out and moving a lot, coming down to bushes and trees with berries. Difficult to count in moving car..
  • Hassop Station: Waxwing - 30+ - Flighty flock 30+ in drizzle at 13:30
  • Jordans Lock: Goosander - 12 ; Kingfisher - 1
  • Leadmill Bridge: Canada Goose - 60+ - In field Hathersage side of the Bridge
  • Low Common, Scholes: Kestrel - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 20+ - roving over stubble ; Pied Wagtail - 2
  • Malin Bridge: Cormorant - 1 - sat in tree at back of Towsure
  • Middle Common, Scholes: 319 - 2 - together on telegraph poles ; Linnet - 20+ ; Linnet - 20+ ; Magpie - 6+ ; Kestrel - 1
