Friday 28th August 2020

  • Hope: House Martin - 10 - Flying around the house where they bred, on main road on eastern end of village. Adults and juvs.
  • Linacre Res: Goldfinch - 140 - feeding together in uncut hayfield ; Mandarin - 28 ; Tufted Duck - 21 ; Great Crested Grebe - 8
  • Middlewood: Swift - 3 - over Ganton Rd in heavy rain for about 20mins. 1st here since 12th when local birds left. ; House Martin - 6 - including birds still feeding at nest on Overton Rd.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Shelduck - 3 - 2 ad and 1 juv ; Little Egret - 8 - Came in at 07:10 6 left after disturbed by juv Peregrine ; Cormorant - 14 ; Common Sandpiper - 2 ; Ringed Plover - 1 - North ; Mediterranean Gull - 1 - Adult winter in at 09:05 ; Shoveler - 2 ; Peregrine - 1 - Juv
  • Rawmarsh: Swift - 2 - N in miserable conditions @ 1256hrs
  • Redmires Middle Res: Dipper - 1 - Never seen a Dipper in this location before
  • Walkley Bank: Blackbird - 5+ - two adults feeding 3+ recently-fledged juveniles in garden.

  • Baslow: Swallow - 23 - On telephone wires “grounded “ by early morning mist
  • Birley Edge: Starling - 300 - On telegraph wires on Skew Hill - flew off forming a 'mini-murmation'
  • Chapeltown: Swift - 6 - North 10am
  • Fulwood garden: Crossbill - 1+ - Over calling, heading E just before 9 this morning ; Cormorant - 5 - Party of adults N, second record in 20 years ; Swift - 8 - Feeding with House Martins overhead ; House Martin - 12 - Hawking with Swifts ; Swallow - 2 - Over S ; Pied Wagtail - 1 - Over NW ; Siskin - 1 - Smart male ; Chiffchaff - 1 - Feeding in bushes ; Long-tailed Tit - 10 - Family party ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Male
