  • Thrybergh CP: Tawny Owl - 1 - Calling before dawn. ; Woodcock - 1 - in car headlights on Thrybergh Lane at dawn.
  • Treeton Dyke: Redwing - 20+
  • Upper Common, Scholes: Meadow Pipit - 2 - up from autumn sown rape.
  • Woodhouse Mill: Bullfinch - 6 - 4M+2F sat together in hedgerow on Smallage Lane. ; Goldfinch - 50+ - roosting at top of Smallage Lane.
  • Worrall: Fieldfare - 50+ - Feeding in field. ; Redwing - 6 - With Fieldfare flock

Wednesday 12th January 2022

  • Bradfield Dale: Pink-footed Goose - c360 - c80 high overhead 11:30 ish SW, with c70 and c200 in distance to S beyond heading W in distance.
  • Bramley: Waxwing - 5 - unconfirmed pager report of 5 in Morrison's car park at 13:10 (note this coud be the Bramley in Leeds - conflicting info from info services)
  • Brightside: Ring-necked Parakeet - 14+ - In tree on Brightside Lane.at 16:00
  • Burbage Valley: Raven - 1 ; Wren - 1
  • Dale Dike Res: Tufted Duck - 4 - 2p
  • Ecclesfield: 319 - 3 - together calling, flying SW
  • Flash Farm, Stannington: Tree Sparrow - 6
  • Foxhill: Pink-footed Goose - 290 - c140 High west at 11:05; another skein c150 high west at 11:20
  • Hillsborough Park: Goosander - 2 - Pair on the lake ; Goosander - 2 - photo ; Moorhen - 4+ - Feeding on dead Canada Goose (at least 4 dead birds ). Reported to DEFRA as suspected Avian Flu although the continuous input of bread into the water can't help.
  • Rivelin Valley: Dipper - 1 ; Goldcrest - 1 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Bullfinch - 2 ; Long-tailed Tit - 4+
  • Thrybergh Tip: Shoveler - 12 - in reeds adjacent to river. ; 320 - 2 - Male and female main lagoon ; Cormorant - 5 ; Jay - 1 ; Mallard - 8 ; Mute Swan - 2 ; Tufted Duck - c30 - Mostly on River. ; Song Thrush - 1 - Singing at dusk. ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Kestrel - 1 - Near Weir.
  • Totley Moor: Pink-footed Goose - 74 ; SNOW BUNTING - 1 - at 09:30 ; Red Grouse - 2
  • Treeton woods: 319 - 6 - Two perched, four others cavorting & displaying. ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Male ; Treecreeper - 2 ; Long-tailed Tit - 8 - searching the canopy

Tuesday 11th January 2022

  • Bingham Park: Treecreeper - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Dipper - 1
  • Endcliffe Park: Dipper - 2 - Near Hunters' Bar. Watching each other from adjacent rocks followed by some chasing. ; Mandarin - 9 - 5m 4f on top pond ; Nuthatch - 1 - singing
  • Frecheville: Goosander - 5 - 3m 2rh Frecheville Pond
  • Mayfield Valley: Mandarin - 14 - flew low W at dusk, presumably to roost
  • Pebley Pond: Brambling - 20+ - with large mixed finch foraging flock ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Great Crested Grebe - 2
  • Ramsley: Brambling - 2+ - very mobile ; Greenfinch - 5+ ; Reed Bunting - 3 - fem
  • Redmires Middle Res: Peregrine - 1 - on rocks ; 320 - 18 ; Curlew - 1 - flying around calling
  • Shillito Wood: Brambling - 2 ; Raven - 1 - over W calling
  • Thrybergh Tip: Tufted Duck - c.60 ; Shoveler - 10 ; Gadwall - 6 ; 320 - 1 ; Mute Swan - 2 ; Cetti's Warbler - 1 - brief call in corner near metal bridge at 09.35 ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Jay - 1 ; Bullfinch - 2
  • Totley Moor: SNOW BUNTING - 1 - showing very well by the ventilation shaft, 11:15-12:00.
  • Unstone: Meadow Pipit - 33
  • Whiteley Woods: Dipper - 1
  • Wire Mill Dam: Mallard - 64 ; Mandarin - 19 ; Goosander - 2 - pair ; Stock Dove - 1 - singing

Monday 10th January 2022

  • Attercliffe: Peregrine - 1 - ad Bernard Road.
  • Brownhills Lane: Greylag Goose - 66 - grazing in fields ; Kestrel - 1 - on roadside fenceposts
  • Catcliffe Flash: Coot - 12 ; Tufted Duck - 6 ; 320 - 1
  • Crosspool: Tawny Owl - 1 - regular bird
  • Cutthorpe: Grey Partridge - 6 - in one covey; showing well ; Bullfinch - 1 ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Long-tailed Tit - 2
  • Endcliffe Park: Dipper - 2 - by Hunters' Bar at 8:10
  • Foxhill: House Sparrow - c20 - Shaw Hill Farm ; Goldfinch - c8 ; Collared Dove - 2 - Pair
  • Hillsborough: Pink-footed Goose - 200 - c200 flying west at 14:05
  • Hillsborough Park: Canada Goose - c130 - plus 4 dead birds on island ; Coot - c16 ; Moorhen - c10 ; Tufted Duck - 2 - pair ; Goosander - 1 - 1w drake ; Black-headed Gull - c170 - one with a nearly full hood.
