  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Lesser Redpoll - 50+ ; Tawny Owl - 1 ; Fieldfare - 40+ - flock flew over west ; Raven - 2 ; Treecreeper - 1
  • Whirlow Hall Farm: Sparrowhawk - 1
  • White Lee Moor: Fieldfare - c1000 - birds constantly dropping out of sky to feed on berry laden trees ( hawthorn , rowan ) in the swan neck area. ; Meadow Pipit - 38 ; Crossbill - 16

Thursday 15th October 2020

  • Barlow Common: Grey Partridge - c.12 - covey of c.12 - the first time the observer has ever seen them here ; Little Owl - 1 ; Skylark - 6 - one singing
  • Catcliffe Flash: Wigeon - 107 ; Shoveler - 11
  • Endcliffe Park: Mandarin - 2 - pair on top lake this morning
  • Fulwood: Redwing - 300 - at least, moving NW in parties of 30-50 over an hour ; Fieldfare - 15 - moved NW over an hour this morning ; Song Thrush - 2 - around observer's garden this morning, obvious migrants ; Blackbird - 8 - at least around observer's garden this morning, obvious migrants ; Ring Ouzel - 3 - single party E around 08:45
  • Malin Bridge: Redwing - c10 - nocmig: 15 calls 00:30-22:00 ; Blackbird - 1 - nocmig 03:25
  • Middleton Moor: Swallow - 1 - perched on wall ; Shoveler - 2 ; 320 - 15 ; Shelduck - 1 ; Lapwing - 18

  • Redmires: Fieldfare - 100+ - A Thrush morning at Redmires as both Fieldfare and Redwing flicks of 30+ birds moving North West . Difficult to say if any were recircling birds ; Redwing - 40+ ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Blackbird - 3 ; Starling - 6 - Flying East ; Kestrel - 1 - Over Hammonds Field ; 319 - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 6 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 ; Coal Tit - 2 - With singles of Great Tit and Blue Tit ; Linnet - 1 ; Carrion Crow - 3 ; Chaffinch - 1 ; Robin - 6 ; Meadow Pipit - 2 ; Jay - 1 ; 324 - 1 - Remarkably green and fit Common Lizard taking advantage of brief sunny spell at 8 degrees on path behind Middle Reservoir ; Wigeon - 1
  • Redmires Res: Wigeon - 2 - on Middle Res ; Goosander - 1 - male flew W ; Redwing - 30 - grounded - off E ; Fieldfare - 20 - flew SE ; Song Thrush - 4 - grounded with Redwings ; Yellowhammer - 1 - Female with Reed Buntings - my only record this year. Tragic
  • Rother Valley CP: GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - In at Meadowgate Lake at 11:20.   • Totley Rise garden: Redwing - 5 - Feeding on Rowan berries in garden

Wednesday 14th October 2020

  • Burncross, Chapeltown: 319 - 5 - 13.45 Circling over estates calling ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Large female hunting over estates
  • Greasbrough Dam,Wentworth: 319 - 4 - 4 in the air then later 2 ground feeding in a field with crows and wood pigeons. The 2 may have been part of the group of 4. ; Pheasant - 3 - 3 white pheasants amongst numerous normal coloured ones. One could be seen clearly enough to see it had a red face.
  • Green Moor: Pheasant - 80+ - Remnants of game release
  • Hillsborough Park: Redwing - 20+ - Flying BE at 11:00
  • Malin Bridge: Redwing - c250 - flocks throughout day, mainly moving NE but some heading W ; Fieldfare - c40 - over W ; Redwing - c80 - nocmig: movement continued,103 calls 00:00-07:30, 14 calls 2:30-23:00 ; Blackbird - c4 - nocmig: 8 calls, 19:45-22:58 ; Dunlin - 1 - nocmig 01:50
