  • Upper Ewden: WHITE-TAILED EAGLE - 1 - on moors above shooting lodge
  • Weston Park: Moorhen - 5 - Adult with 4 fledglings on lake
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Nightjar - 1 - brief churring and several flight calls ; Curlew - 1 - flew over calling ; Green Woodpecker - 2

Monday 2nd August 2021

  • Castleton area: Redstart - 1m - Near Peakshole Water ; Wheatear - 4 - Cave Dale area
  • Norwood allotments: Ring-necked Parakeet - 20 - noisy flock of 20 mobbing a passing Lesser Black-backed Gull.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Black-tailed Godwit - 1 - Circled then flew north
  • Pebley Pond: GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 ; Little Egret - 2 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Barnacle Goose - 1 - first record for the area ; Canada Goose - c170 ; Greylag Goose - c50 ; Greylag Goose - c50 ; Oystercatcher - 3 - 2 adult 1 juvenile ; Mute Swan - 8 - resident pair with six young
  • Redmires Res: Little Grebe - 2 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 106 ; Herring Gull - 12 ; Black-headed Gull - 38 ; Yellow-legged Gull - 2 - ads ; Green Woodpecker - 1 - juv arrived from SE and flew into Redmires Plantation - first record for a while ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - calling ; Cormorant - 1 - sub-ad flew W
  • Upper Ewden: WHITE-TAILED EAGLE - 1 - IOW release bird again late morning and afternoon on moors between Broomhead shooting lodge and Cut Gate footpath. Mainly sat on moor with only occasional short flights.

Sunday 1st August 2021

  • Agden Rocher: Yellowhammer - 1 - male in srcub near Rocher End ; Yellowhammer - 1 - female near Rocher Head Farm
  • Dukes Road: WHITE-TAILED EAGLE - 1 - (IOW release bird) distantly from Agden Side, well up Dukes Road beyond Flint Hill 14:00-14:05.
  • Middleton Moor: Yellow-legged Gull - 8 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 175 ; Oystercatcher - 1 ; Shelduck - 6 - 2 adults plus 4 juveniles ; Redstart - 3 ; Whitethroat - 2 ; Willow Warbler - 3 ; Stonechat - 4
  • Monsal Dale: Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Grey Heron - 2 - circling together and calling ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - drumming ; Marsh Tit - 1+ - one seen, others calling ; House Martin - 3 ; Nuthatch - 5+ - calling ; Bullfinch - 1 - calling ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - over S ; Magpie - 2 ; Willow Warbler - 10+ - calling ; Mandarin - 3 ; 324 - 1 - Silver-washed Fritillary
  • Norton Lees garden: Long-tailed Tit - c7
  • Norwood Allotments: Swift - 150+ - 3 around most of the day, but 150+ at 16:30. Too high to see without binoculars.
  • Redmires conduit: Swallow - 5 - At far end, feeding young
  • Wadsley Common: Swallow - 2 - Back on nest in outbuilding.
  • Walkley: Swift - 1 - Single flying S. Local nest site unused for 1st time in 10 years.
