  • Millhouses: Blackcap - 2 - Male and Female in Stowe Avenue garden
  • Moss Valley, upper: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - heard - Norwood ; Nuthatch - 1 - heard - Owler Car Wood
  • Orgreave Lakes: Wigeon - 28 ; Goldeneye - 4 ; Goosander - 32 - Came in to roost up until 16.30 ; Peregrine - 1 - Flushed most of the gulls at 16.20 ; 327 - C120 - Between the bridges ; Starling - 200+ - Murmurating then seemed to roost on or around Treeton Dyke. ; Pink-footed Goose - 186+ - One flock heard only at 14.25 +186 NW at 16.15 ; Great Black-backed Gull - 67 - At pre roost wash off later all gulls left to roost . ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 11 ; Herring Gull - 233 - All gulls left the site by 16.30 ; Black-headed Gull - C250
  • Rawmarsh: Pink-footed Goose - c90 - low to W/NW @ 1114hrs ; Pink-footed Goose - c90 - low to W/NW @ 1114hrs
  • Rivelin Valley: Mallard - 19 ; Moorhen - 2 ; Dipper - 1 - With silver ring ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Mandarin - 4 - 2 male, 2 female ; Nuthatch - 1 ; Woodpigeon - 6 ; Goosander - 2 - Male and female at edge of Wolf Wheel mill pond.
  • Rother Valley CP: Goldeneye - 8 - 2 male and 2 female on Meadowgate lake, 1 male and 1 female on River Rother and 1 male and 1 female on main lake.
  • Shepherd Wheel: Grey Heron - 1 - Mobbed by crow ; Kingfisher - 1 - Female
  • Stocksbridge: Pink-footed Goose - 100+
  • Thrybergh CP: Water Rail - 1 ; Great Crested Grebe - 15 ; Little Grebe - 12 ; Tufted Duck - 54 ; Pochard - 12 ; Wigeon - 1 ; Goosander - 1 - redhead ; Greylag Goose - 144 ; Cormorant - 4 ; Chaffinch - 16 ; 319 - 1
  • Walkley garden: Redwing - 1 - Single perched at top of plum tree ; Wren - 1 - Single, foraging in ferns and undergrowth.
  • Wharncliffe Side: Cormorant - 1 - Over village south ; Brambling - 1 - female in observers garden

Monday 28th December 2020

  • Brincliffe Edge: Goldfinch - 40 - regular flock in garden, peaks between 25-40 birds each day ; Greenfinch - 20 - much higher numbers in garden this year, after several years of only 3-4 birds
  • Dronfield: Sparrowhawk - 1 - Male in trees near Greendale
  • Elsecar Res: 320 - 5 ; Tufted Duck - 11
  • Foxhill: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - Calling from wood by Shaw Hill Farmers
  • Frecheville: Goosander - 7 - Frecheville pond 1m 6rh
  • Frith Wood, Dronfield: Redwing - 30 - In trees above bridleway E of wood
  • Fulwood: Song Thrush - 1 - In observer's garden; first here since October ; Tawny Owl - 1 - Calling in early hours ; Magpie - 2 - Fighting over a freshly killed mouse in observer's garden ; Goldfinch - 10 - At feeders in observer's garden ; Greenfinch - 5 - At feeders ; Bullfinch - 1 - Male at feeders ; Blackcap - 1 - Female eating sunflower hearts from feeder ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Middleton Moor: Stonechat - 2
  • Millhouses: Blackcap - 1 - male in Springfield Rd garden
  • Norton Lees: Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - heard
  • Norton Lees garden: Redwing - 4 ; Blackbird - 5 - Numbers building up again
  • Norwood Allotments: Pink-footed Goose - 400+ - c180 west at 17:00, followed by 25 at 17:20 and c200 at 17:29.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Stonechat - 2 - 1 pair. ; Wigeon - 16 ; Goosander - 18 ; Goldeneye - 4 ; Great Black-backed Gull - 216 - On water at 16.15 some left both NW and south but most birds still on water at 16.30. ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 18 ; Herring Gull - 391 - As GBBG ; Common Gull - 1 ; Black-headed Gull - 200 ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Golden Plover - 24 - Circled but did not land ; Goldeneye - 6 - 3 drakes ; Snipe - 1 ; Water Pipit - 1 - On island ; Wigeon - 50 ; 320 - 20
  • Parkgate; *Banana* plantation: Redwing - 5 - NW ; Linnet - 1 - W/SW ; Pied Wagtail - 1 - N ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - hunting ; Greenfinch - 20 - 7 + 11 + 2, all NW ; Woodpigeon - present - song & aerial display ; Stock Dove - 1 - singing
  • Rawmarsh Cemetery: Long-tailed Tit - 4 ; Magpie - Oct-15 - foraging party ; Redwing - 4 ; Bullfinch - 1 - female
  • Rawmarsh; Barber*s Avenue: Black-headed Gull - 18 - playing field ; Common Gull - 2 - playing field; an increasingly scarce species locally
  • Rawmarsh; Stubbin incline: Red-legged Partridge - c50 - single covey, in adjacent field ; Redwing - 3 ; Bullfinch - 1 ; House Sparrow - c30 - largest flock seen locally for some time
  • Roundwood Golf course: Siskin - 3+ - calling ; Magpie - 14 - dispersing post-roost
