Wharncliffe Chase (south) + woodland fringe: Crossbill - 2 ; Skylark - 13 ; Cuckoo - 1 ; Wheatear - 7 ; Lapwing - 4 ; Whitethroat - 1 - First of the summer ; Lesser Redpoll - 1 - Close up views of possibly ill bird feeding around puddle. Left eye surround was bare and rosy red. Otherwise fed normally and flew around with odd call.

Birley Edge: Swallow - 8 ; House Martin - 2

Botanical Gardens: Swift - 17 - 6 W, 11

Bramley: Swift - 4 - Back over Flanderwell Avenue breeding ground.

Brooks Bank Farm (nr Midhope Res) scrapes: Curlew - c10 - Feeding, bathing, preening along with approx 5 Whimbrel. ; Whimbrel - c5 - Difficult to count due to distance and heat haze but ID confirmed from size difference to Curlew and call whilst in flight. ; Woodpigeon - c9 - feeding in field ; Lapwing - c7 - m + f - no sign of young ; Wheatear - 1 - male, on dry-stone-wall and feeding in field, no sign of a female ; Snipe - at least 2 - feeding in rushy patch in field. ; Blackbird - 2 ; Mallard - 2 ; Swallow - c5 - flying over ; Linnet - 2 - pair landed in field then hidden by grass ; Mistle Thrush - 1 ; Meadow Pipit - 2

Catcliffe Flash: Tufted Duck - 2 ; Gadwall - 4 ; Great Crested Grebe - 1 - Nest no longer occupied, possibly flooded. ; Mallard - 1+ - +4 ducklings ; Coot - 4+ - 4 nests

Centenary Riverside: Sedge Warbler - 1 - To left of entrance bridge. Also lesser whitethroat 1 heard

Cinder Hills: Pheasant - 1+ ; Wren - 1 - singing ; Dunnock - 1 - singing ; Robin - 1 - singing ; Blackbird - 1 - singing ; Treecreeper - 1 - singing ; Chiffchaff - 1+ ; Bullfinch - 2 - 1 pair

Dungworth: Wood Warbler - 1 - Singing in roadside woodland near Hall Broom.

Greystones garden: Starling - 6 - 1 Juvenile, earliest we have ever had by 7 days!

Hurlfield: Swift - c7 ; House Martin - 8 - Single then 7 all North ; Swallow - 11 - 2 south 9 north ; Stock Dove - 2 ; Sparrowhawk - 2 ; Common Buzzard - 3 ; Peregrine - 1 - over observers house towards City Centre possibly carrying prey.
