  • Thrybergh Tip: Mallard - 8+ - + brood of 6 ; Gadwall - 4+ - + brood of 5 ; Cetti's Warbler - 1 - singing frequently from N edge ; Bullfinch - 1 ; Reed Warbler - 4+ - singing ; Kestrel - 1 - male, hunting ; Cormorant - 2 - singles, SW ; Stock Dove - 4 - 2 over; singles singing, Thrybergh Bridge & Bluebell Wood ; Black-headed Gull - 5 - max ; Water Rail - 2 - singles calling on S edge & in SE corner ; Kingfisher - 1 ; Great Crested Grebe - 2 - adults; no evidence of breeding ; Treecreeper - 2 - calling in widely spaced locations ; Common Buzzard - 1 - over ; Linnet - 1 - over ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Sand Martin - 1 ; Jay - 1 ; Pheasant - 2 - cocks ; Garden Warbler - 2 - singing ; Goldcrest - 1 - singing ; Hobby - 1+ - 3 different sightings, first looked like a brown backed first summer bird. ; Common Tern - 1 - fishing briefly
  • Ulley Res: Mute Swan - 6 - 2 ads 4 cygnets ; 319 - 2 ; Whitethroat - 1
  • Wharncliffe Heath NR: Green Woodpecker - 1 ; Curlew - 1 - flew over calling
  • Wharncliffe Side: Goosander - 1 - female on river don
  • Whiston: Yellow Wagtail - 1 - In fields next to garden centre ; Skylark - 1 - singing

Saturday 26th June 2021

  • Ash Cabin Flat: Stonechat - 1 - male alarming in suitable breeding habitat
  • Bamford Edge: Ring Ouzel - 1
  • Blacka Plantation: Wood Warbler - 2 - 2 male singing and third bird possibly female? calling. ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 2 - Male drumming & juvenile feeding ; Pied Flycatcher - 3 - Female feeding 2 young
  • Curbar Edge: Meadow Pipit - 10+ - Several adults carrying food to presumed nest sites
  • Curbar Gap: Yellowhammer - 1 - Singing male on sharp bend below gap - unexpected here
  • Ecclesall: Common Buzzard - 3 - singles N during afternoon ; Red Kite - 1 - circled an Ansell Road garden before drifting off SW
  • Firsby Res: 319 - 6 - 2 adults separately and an adult with prey being pursued by a juvenile, also at least 2 chicks on nest that was used last year. ; Pied Wagtail - 2 ; Reed Warbler - 2 ; House Martin - c20 ; Swallow - 5 ; Grey Heron - 1 ; Blackbird - 3 ; Chiffchaff - 2 - Singing ; Swift - 4 ; Goldfinch - 2 - Juveniles ; Mallard - 6
  • Greasbrough: Raven - 1 - Harrased by 2 carrion crows
  • Green Moor: Tree Sparrow - 4+ - All very young juveniles, bred in area ; Yellowhammer - 3+ ; Blackcap - 1+ - At least one singing male ; Garden Warbler - 2 - Two territories with singing males
  • Hooton Common: Yellowhammer - 2 - singing males ; Whitethroat - 1 - singing ; Red-legged Partridge - 4
  • Orgreave Lakes: Common Scoter - 7 ; Common Scoter - 7 - 6 squabbling drakes and a lone female Common Scoter at 06:30 ; Reed Bunting - 2 - Juvs ; Common Scoter - 7 - Inc 1 female ; Grasshopper Warbler - 1 - Adult flitting between bramble clumps ; Grey Partridge - 1 - Calling
  • R Don, Carbrook: Sand Martin - 15+ - at least 6 nestholes being visited in Gripple nest box, and 3 drainage pipes. ; Kingfisher - 1
  • Redmires Res: Little Grebe - 5 - Pair still feeding 3 young on Top Res ; Kestrel - 1 ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Common Sandpiper - 8 - inc ad with 2 well-grown young ; Black-headed Gull - 1 ; Herring Gull - 4 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 4 ; Curlew - 12 - inc 8 which flew W ; Great Tit - 5 - family party - ad feeding 4 juvs ; Bullfinch - 4 - family party ; Reed Bunting - 2 - ad feeding young
  • Rivelin Dams: Common Sandpiper - 1 - alarming on Top Res due to wild swimmers - assume young hidden from view
  • Silverwood Lagoon: Hobby - 1 - south at 08.50
  • Stocksbridge: HONEY BUZZARD - 1 - adult male circled over Stocksbridge then left south at 14:20hrs
  • Thrybergh CP: GREAT WHITE EGRET - 1 - Adult bird came in from East 10:30gave fantastic views as it attempted to land on front departing slowly west 10:35 ; 319 - 4+ ; Kestrel - 2m ; Sparrowhawk - 1f ; Common Tern - 2 ; Swift - 100+ ; Swallow - 5 ; House Martin - 4 ; Sand Martin - C30 ; Skylark - 6 ; Mute Swan - 68 ; Canada Goose - 122
  • West Nab/white lea area: Curlew - 3 - in and around fields below shooting range ; Lapwing - 11 - same area as curlews ; Snipe - 1 - calling from fence post ; Skylark - 03-Apr - singing above White lea pastures ; Swallow - 2 - hawking around sheep at White lea ; Swift - 2 - same as swallows ; Willow Warbler - 1 - singing from birches by Walker House
