  • Wharncliffe Chase (south): Meadow Pipit - 10+ - Incl. some song, juveniles + adults taking food to nest. ; Yellowhammer - 1 - Cracking adult singing ; Linnet - 20+ - incl juvs ; Tree Pipit - 1 ; Swallow - 28 - Mostly juvs on wires outside Hallfield Head Farm.

Thursday 8th July 2021

  • Arbourthorne: Moorhen - 11 - 2 adults 5 chicks from second brood. 4well grown juvs from first brood. ; Mallard - 6 - on pond 8am ; Swift - 8 - over pond. ; Starling - c70 - fields adj to pond.
  • Brownhills Lane: Cormorant - 6 - Flying over heading west.
  • Elsecar Heritage Centre: Pied Wagtail - 1pr - feeding young in nest
  • Heeley: Red Kite - 1 - Drifted low South over house at 11:49 ; Common Buzzard - 1 - over towards Norfolk Park10:40 ; Sparrowhawk - 1
  • Nell Croft: Kestrel - 2 - opp Fox House
  • Oakbrook Road: 324 - 3 - White-letter hairstreak in tall Wych Elm just west of Oakbrook Road/Rustlings Road mini roundabout
  • Orgreave Lakes: Little Egret - 3 - Possible family group of 3 feeding on South Side of smaller lake.
  • R Derwent, Shatton-Leadmill: Mandarin - 19 - along this stretch ; Goosander - 1 - redhead ; Dipper - 1 ; Moorhen - 1 - juv ; Mallard - 7 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Redstart - 3+ - at 2 separate locations ; Grey Wagtail - 1
  • R Don, Deepcar: Grey Wagtail - 2 - adult feeding recently-fledged youngster on river bank, upstream of Station Road
  • Redmires conduit: Swallow - 2 ; Lapwing - 7 ; Curlew - 5 ; Meadow Pipit - 5 ; Wren - 2 ; Kestrel - 3 - Seen together ; Golden Plover - 2 ; Skylark - 1 ; Red Grouse - 5 ; 319 - 1 ; Swift - 3
  • Redmires Middle Res: Curlew - 10 - Left w ; Raven - 4 - Presumed family party interacting. ; Oystercatcher - 2
  • Redmires Top Res: Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Little Grebe - 3 - Juvs avoiding the top res lido.
  • Rother Valley CP: Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - Singing next to driving range ; Whitethroat - 1 - singing ; Lesser Whitethroat - 1 - Singing next to golf driving range ; Whitethroat - 1 - Singing near 1st tee
  • Thrybergh CP: Shelduck - 7 - Family party of 2 adults and 5 juveniles, @ 20;30hrs then leaving towards Denaby/Dearne Valley.
  • Ulley CP: Swift - 800-1000 - feeding over field at N end of dam off Reservoir Rd. late morning. Impossible to count - could be more.
  • Whinfell quarry gardens: 324 - 1 - Comma butterfly

  • Birley Edge: Swift - 20 - Highest number here this year ; Chiffchaff - 1 - Singing ; Grey Wagtail - 1 - observed on the road before flying off
  • Catcliffe Flash: Kingfisher - 2 - In trees opposite lay-by 12.35 ; Little Grebe - 1
  • Fulwood garden: Jackdaw - 2 - adult feeding fledged juv under feeders ; Bullfinch - 1 - juv
  • Heads Lane Bolsterstone: Pied Wagtail - 2 ; Swallow - 08-Oct - around farm buildings ; Meadow Pipit - 2 ; Linnet - 05-Jun - small flock on edge of moor ; Kestrel - 1 - hunting over moor ; Curlew - 1 - calling and overflying ; Lapwing - 2 - over field at moor end of lane ; Pheasant - 2 ; House Sparrow - 1 - calling from barn roof ; Carrion Crow - 3 ; Rook - 40+ - largish flock in field with sheep ; Jackdaw - 8 ; Woodpigeon - 12 - with Rooks ; Blackbird - 3 ; Skylark - 2 - short bursts of song in flight ; Mistle Thrush - 1 - forageing in field
  • Norfolk Heritage Park: Swift - 15+ - Flying and feeding over park; perhaps attracted by insects feeding on profuse lime tree flowers whose scent is pervading the lower part of the park.
  • Orgreave Lakes: Little Egret - 4 - 4 feeding around smaller lake. ; Little Egret - 4 - 4th bird on island ; Black-tailed Godwit - 14 - Summer-plumage adults through at 07:20 ; Sand Martin - C.200 - Mostly juveniles ; Little Egret - 4 - Up to 4 present in recent days. ; Yellow Wagtail - 1 ; Common Sandpiper - 1
  • R Derwent, Grindleford: Grey Wagtail - 4 ; Dipper - 3 - All Juveniles, 1 with silver ring on right leg ; Mandarin - 11 - 9 Juveniles ; Swallow - 2
  • Rawmarsh; High Street: Sparrowhawk - 1 - female on roof of Earl Grey PH for several minutes around 1000hrs
  • Redmires Middle Res: Lesser Black-backed Gull - 34 - loafing late afternoon, mostly adults ; Herring Gull - 3 ; Black-headed Gull - 2 - adult and ginger juv ; Yellow-legged Gull - 1 - adult with LBBGs
  • Rotherham: Kestrel - 1 - Flew S to N over NY Stadium 15.34
  • Stanley Hill: Whitethroat - 1 - Singing ; Yellowhammer - 1 - Singing
