  • Hurlfield: House Sparrow - c20 - in garden and on feeders ; Blue Tit - 2 - a pair at nest box ; Great Tit - 2 - a pair ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - over garden
  • Longshaw: Mandarin - c7 - on lake ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - drumming ; Treecreeper - 1
  • Middleton Moor: Shelduck - 3 - Pair, with male constantly harassing third bird ; Tufted Duck - 2 - Pair ; 320 - 8 ; Dunlin - 1
  • Orgreave Lakes: Rock Pipit - 1 - A nice plum coloured Littoralis on rocks by north shore briefly early morning. ; Little Ringed Plover - 2 ; Snipe - 10 - On island ; Shoveler - 2 - Drakes ; Great Crested Grebe - 13 ; Skylark - 7 - Singing ; Reed Bunting - 4 - 3 male, 1 singing, 1 female ; Jay - 1 ; Goldfinch - 6 ; Bullfinch - 2 - Pair calling ; Chiffchaff - 4 - Singing ; Reed Bunting - 2 - Male & female near the railway bridge
  • Padley Gorge: Grey Wagtail - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 5+ - heard between Padley Gorge & Hathersage
  • Pebley Pond: Brambling - 1 ; Oystercatcher - 2 - a pair on the island
  • Rawmarsh: Common Buzzard - 2 - flew high to NW @ 1415hrs
  • Rawmarsh; Rectory Fields allotments: Chiffchaff - 1 - singing
  • Redmires Bottom Res: Chiffchaff - 2 - one singing and another with Long-tailed Tits ; Greylag Goose - 40 ; Canada Goose - 45 ; Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 - drumming
  • Rivelin Valley: Lesser Spotted Woodpecker - 1
  • Rother Valley CP: Chiffchaff - 10+ - singing ; Redwing - c150 ; Brambling - 1 ; Greenfinch - 1 - singing
  • Rud Hill: Golden Plover - 80 - in rough fields ; Lapwing - 12 - several in display. territorial flights ; 319 - 1 ; Skylark - 2 - singing ; Meadow Pipit - 6 - including 2 in song flight
  • Sheffield University: Peregrine - 1+ - first egg laid at St George's
  • Sothall: Redwing - 20+ - calls recorded nocmig 2000hr-0530hr
  • St Georges Church: Peregrine - 3 - Resident pair being challenged by persistent 3rd bird (male) ; Sparrowhawk - 1 - Large female with central 4 tail feathers missing so tail looks V shaped.
  • Treeton: Yellowhammer - 1 - Singing @06.35 ; Chaffinch - 2 - 2 male, 1 singing ; Chiffchaff - 2 - Singing ; Song Thrush - 2 - Singing
  • Waverley: Lapwing - 1 - By Rotherway, waste land side of Mclaren factory, display flight @08.50 ; Woodpigeon - 2 - Sat on nests side of path.

  • Brownhills Lane: Greylag Goose - 20+
  • Damflask Res: Greylag Goose - 6 - 3 pairs along edge of water ; Mandarin - 6 - 3 pairs along water's edge ; Canada Goose - 10 - loafing in centre of dam ; Great Crested Grebe - 1 - male fishing ; Mallard - 2 - behaving as pair but one looked like a moulting/drab male without neck ring, other a typical male ; Shoveler - 2 - pair swimming later flying over
  • Fulwood garden: Brambling - 6 - 3m and 3f at feeders ; Siskin - 7 - at feeders ; Chaffinch - 4 - around feeders, including singing male
  • Hurlfield: Bullfinch - 2 - a pair in garden ; Chaffinch - 1 - singing male in garden ; Greenfinch - 3 - 2 males 1 female on garden feeders ; Goldfinch - 10+ - on garden feeders ; Chiffchaff - 1 - singing ; Common Buzzard - 1 - flew south at 16:40
  • Middleton Moor: Curlew - 91 ; Dunlin - 3 ; Oystercatcher - 2 ; Shelduck - 1 ; Common Gull - 11 ; Fieldfare - 160 - dropped in to roost
  • Midhope Res area: Curlew - 15+ ; Lapwing - 9 - Territories on fields below res. ; Redwing - c100 - Large chattering group. ; Siskin - 1 ; Meadow Pipit - 5+ - Display flights for first time this year on grassy bank. ; Song Thrush - 4 - singing ; Little Grebe - 2 ; Skylark - 2 - singing ; Sparrowhawk - 1 ; Moorhen - 2 ; Whooper Swan - 1 - Allowing approach within touching distance. Didn’t look unwell. Seen exercising wings. ; Stock Dove - 1 - display ; Chiffchaff - 01-Feb - singing ; Snipe - 4 - Displaying together over fields, one crossed res towards Low Moor then returned. ; Goldcrest - 1 - singing ; Oystercatcher - 3 - Pair seen mating. ; Mistle Thrush - 2 - singing ; Red Kite - 1 - over trees bordering southern shore ; Tufted Duck - 3 ; Linnet - 4 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 3 - flew east
  • Millhouses Park: 319 - 1 - soaring above park
  • Norfolk Heritage Park: Blackcap - 2 - Two singing males, first I've heard here this year.
  • Norfolk Park: Jackdaw - c8 - probably at least 4 pairs nesting in light fittings above tram route on Park Grange Rd.
  • Norton Lees: Tawny Owl - 1 - calling, Norton Lees Lane
