  • Moscar Lodge: House Martin - at least 8 - birds seen going under house eves in 4 separate places, nests presumably
  • Orgreave Lakes: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 1 - Adult still present
  • Redmires conduit: Kestrel - 1 - hover hunting
  • Redmires conduit - the pool: Swallow - at least 4 - Feeding over the pool and one entering the stone hut, where there is a nest. No young seen in nest. ; Snipe - 1 - drumming over rushy area ; Swift - at least 1 - feeding over pool ; Skylark - at least 1 - singing ; Meadow Pipit - at least 2
  • Scholes Coppice: Stock Dove - 1 - singing ; Woodpigeon - 1 - singing ; Wren - 1 - singing ; Goldcrest - 1 - singing ; Song Thrush - 1 - singing ; Long-tailed Tit - 3+ - along Raspberry Plantation ; Nuthatch - 1 - calls ; Carrion Crow - 1
  • Thrybergh CP: Common Tern - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1
  • Upper Common, Scholes: Lapwing - 3 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 - adult and juv, over ; Skylark - 1 - singing
  • Watergrove: Canada Goose - 2+ - a pair with 4 young ; Coot - 1+ - an adult plus one small juv
  • Wyming Brook: Wood Warbler - 1 - singing NW of main track junction.

Friday 24th June 2022

  • Barbrook Plantation: Spotted Flycatcher - 1 ; Red Kite - 1 ; Red-legged Partridge - 2 ; Stonechat - 4
  • Blackburn Meadows: Little Egret - 1 - Feeding down stream side of weir beside Jordans lock. Still there at 11.30am
  • Endcliffe Student Village ~ pond: Moorhen - 12 - 1 adult + 6 smallish chicks from brood 3 + at least 5 well-grown brood 1 & brood 2 juveniles (one with a damaged leg)
  • Langsett Res: Common Sandpiper - 1+ - Calling constantly from undergrowth but unseen, possibly indicating young nearby. ; Oystercatcher - 3 ; Great Crested Grebe - 3 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 11 - On western shore
  • Linacre Res: Tufted Duck - 49 - all adults, no sign of young yet ; Great Crested Grebe - 6+ - 3 prs each with young ; Common Sandpiper - 1 ; Grey Wagtail - 1+ - an adult with a well grown juv ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 - 2 adults eating a young water bird, probably a coot
  • Meadowhall Retail Park: Little Egret - 1 - Feeding by Hadfields weir. Still there at 11.00am
  • Midhope Res: Oystercatcher - 2 - Adult plus well grown juv ; Cuckoo - 1 - Silently flew across fields ; Common Sandpiper - 5 - 3 chasing, interacting plus 2 more on western shore. ; Little Ringed Plover - 2 - Feeding separately western shore. ; Mandarin - 2 - 2 juvs ; Little Grebe - 5 ; Tufted Duck - 10 - 2 broods, females with 2 ducklings each plus more adults ; Hobby - 1 - Flew from Green Moor and over res. ; Grey Wagtail - Pair ; House Martin - 2 ; Swift - 6 ; Swallow - c20 ; Lesser Black-backed Gull - 4 - Individuals east ; Grey Heron - 1 - 1 juv ; 320 - 4 ; Linnet - 4 ; 319 - 1 ; Siskin - 1 ; Chiffchaff - 1 ; Willow Warbler - 1
  • Moscar: Red Kite - 1 - Circling over A57 at 14-30
  • North Lees: Redstart - 1 - Cracking male singing his heart out near Cattiside Cottage in the middle of a PDNPA members visit.
  • Parkgate: Greenfinch - 1 - 'Banana' Plantation ; Magpie - 3 - 'Banana' Plantation
  • Ringinglow: Grey Partridge - 04-May - probable family party
  • Silverwood Lagoon: BLACK-NECKED GREBE - 5 - 5 adults and 5 juvs. Two pairs each feeding 2 juvs, and a fifth adult with a single juv. Mainly in reeds. ; Mute Swan - 2 - pair still with 9 cygnets (red 748Y and yellow Y169). ; Tufted Duck - 2 - inc female with 7 ducklings
  • Stanage Edge: Little Ringed Plover - 1 - flew SW at 10:05 hrs
  • Stanage Edge, below: Peregrine - 1 - juv ; Red Kite - 1 - briefly over Cowper Stone - off N at 12:10 hrs ; Hobby - 1 - sub-ad seen on three separate occasions ; Stonechat - 4 - pairs with young ; Reed Bunting - 7 - singing makes
  • White Path Moss: Snipe - 1 ; Curlew - 2 ; Golden Plover - 3 - territories ; Skylark - 3 - singing ; Meadow Pipit - 21 ; Common Buzzard - 1 - tangling with a Merlin ; Merlin - 1 - female tangled with a Common Buzzard before flying off south ; Raven - 1 ; Swift - 11 - flew south

  • Aldwarke: Peregrine - 2 - Mobbing Buzzard over Liberty Steels melting shop 10 00 ; 319 - 1
  • Back Tor, Derwentdale: Red Grouse - 7 - 2 adults and at least 5 juveniles in group ; Meadow Pipit - 2
  • Brogging Moss: Jay - 2 ; Willow Warbler - 3 ; Kestrel - 1 - hunting ; Song Thrush - 2 - singing ; Wren - 1 ; Mistle Thrush - 5 - in flock ; Red Grouse - 3+ - 1 adult and 2 juvs ; Golden Plover - 5+ - at least 2 adults plus 3, capable of flying, juvs in a group on Foulstone Rd. ; 319 - 1 - flying over ; Meadow Pipit - 2+ ; Tawny Owl - 1 - briefly hooting
  • Burncross, Chapeltown: Swift - 7 - 21.00 feeding over nesting site in house at entrance to Burncross cemetery ; Greenfinch - 2 - 1 singing
